Special Issue: Engineering and Systemic Approaches for Managing Healthcare 5.0 in Smart Health Systems
Guest Editors: Dr. Sibo Qiao and Dr. Cong Liu

Focus, Scope, and Rationale

The healthcare industry is undergoing a profound transformation, driven by the integration of AI, IoMT, and advanced data analytics, marking the shift to Healthcare 5.0. This new era envisions personalized, autonomous, and interconnected healthcare systems that leverage intelligent technologies. However, this transformation brings challenges in system integration, scalability, and management that require innovative engineering and operational strategies to effectively implement and scale these advancements.

This special issue aims to consolidate cutting-edge research that integrates engineering and systemic approaches with the core domains of Healthcare 5.0 management in smart health systems. By bringing together studies from engineering, healthcare informatics, operations and project management, systems science, and multidisciplinary fields, this issue will highlight innovative methodologies, system frameworks, decision-support tools, and empirical applications that enable scalable, resilient, secure, and efficient healthcare ecosystems addressing critical challenges, such as integration and interoperability, real-time decision support, cybersecurity and privacy protection, governance and risk management, and sustainable implementation pathways.

The rationale for this special issue is to provide a comprehensive platform for researchers and practitioners to explore the most pressing issues in the management of Healthcare 5.0, with a focus on innovative engineering solutions, scalable system designs, and operational strategies that can drive the successful implementation of smart health systems worldwide.
