Business Intelligence Capabilities and Workforce Agility in Emerging Banking Systems: A Cross Sectional Study of Jordan and Malaysia with Moderation and Sensitivity Analysis

Abstract: This study examines how three Business Intelligence (BI), data mining speed, simulation usage, and analytics usage, relate to workforce agility in the banking sectors of Jordan and Malaysia. Using a cross-sectional survey of 412 employees and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with bootstrapping (5,000 resamples), the study tests direct associations, cross-country differences, bank type moderation, and sensitivity to unmeasured confounding (E-value). Results show that all BI dimensions are positively associated with workforce agility, with analytics usage exerting the strongest effect (β = 0.46), followed by simulation usage (β = 0.31) and data mining speed (β = 0.24). The model explains 69% of the variance in workforce agility. Multi-group analysis indicates no significant differences between Jordan and Malaysia, and bank type (commercial vs. Islamic) does not moderate the relationships. The E-value (2.43) suggests moderate robustness to unmeasured confounding. The findings indicate that analytical and simulation capabilities are more strongly linked to workforce agility than data speed alone, supporting Data Driven Decision-Making (DDDM) theory over Information Systems Success perspectives. The study provides comparative evidence from underrepresented, emerging banking contexts and highlights the importance of BI capability differentiation in explaining employee agility, while acknowledging the correlational nature of the evidence and the limitations of self-reported data.
